Hi, my name's Esmeralda and I've been a caregiver for 3 years and I live in Gilroy.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver when my mom was really sick, she used to live with me so I used to take care of her. And ever since I was a teenager, I used to take care of my aunt till they both passed away - my mom and my aunt. So that pushed me in being interested in caring for people.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice for a caregiver would be to give them the best care that you can because they need to feel comfort and they need to be happy because their families depend on us to take care of them.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
I used to take care of a man named Art. He was very happy and joyful. The best times I had taking care of him was when we would take walks. We would go to Starbucks and he would hold the coffee and I would push his wheelchair because he couldn't walk. And those were the fun times - just taking walks and seeing different people and faces, that was fun.
