Hi! My name is Ester. I live in Fairview, TX. I have twenty years of experience.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because my parents are in the healthcare field and I decided to be in the healthcare as well. And also, I took care of my grandmother who lived with us until she was 102 years old.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to listen, pay attention, respectful, to be kind, and love.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Miss Nancy. She was kind, happy, full of life, but she battled with cancer. On her last day, her family walked into the room and they started arguing about her will, financial matters, and I could see on her face that she wasn't happy her family were arguing about her will. That was uncomfortable for her, she was squeezing my hand, my fingers, I could see the expression on her face. So I asked the family to step out of the room, I explained to them that when someone is dying, their sense of hear and smell would be sensitive. I asked them to discuss that matter another time. I walked back inside the room and held her hand again. When I held her hand, she queezed my hand and about five or eight minutes later, she passed away. That is the moment I will always keep in mind, I'll never forget.
