Hi, my name is Eucharia. I live in Houston, TX and I have been a caregiver for two years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because when I was in my country back home, I found out that I developed this interest in caring for people. I cared for my sister's kids, my niece and nephews.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be, in caring for people you just don't go there because of the money that you are going to make. You go in there because of how you feel inside. It's a vocation. It's a calling. It's not like any other profession. Caregiving work is not like engineering work where you work with tools. You are working with human beings, so you have to like what you are doing.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Nikki. I actually worked with her when I was with Child Protection back in my country. She was just a teenager at that time when the unfortunate incident happened to her. They brought her from her hometown, stayed with them, they promised to take her to school but did not. They just left her at home. She was doing the housework. She was molested in so many ways. She was beaten up and taken advantage of.
