Hi, my name is Eunique. I live in Antioch, CA and I have been a caregiver for 10 years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because my grandmother was sick a few years back. Me and my mother started to take care of her in our home until she eventually passed away. After that, I just continued on working with passion. I love to take care of the elderly. I love being a companion. Whatever they need - I'm there for them.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be is first, you will always have to be very patient. You have to listen. A lot of the patients have different medical issues, and you have to be willing to compromise with them. Some of them are very difficult. They are resistant. You just have to have a lot of patience with them, and take your time. Listen and pay very good attention.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
My most memorable client was named Marie. She was an amazing woman. She was so loving and caring. I looked up to her as my other grandmother. She had three children of her own, and maybe about four grandkids of her own that just adored her. She was so sweet - the sweetest thing ever and very nice. She had great stories about her and her husband, how they met, how she became a rancher. She was just amazing, and I really, truly loved her and missed her.
