Hi, my name is Evelyn. I live in Torrance, CA and I have been a caregiver for 3 years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because of my parents. They both passed away in 2010. They were both very ill. My dad was bed ridden, my mother had Alzheimer's. And I work abroad and taking care of their financial expenses. That, for me, it was difficult to take care of them it wasn't enough because I'm far away, and the only time that I can take care of them is when I'm having my vacation. So I have switched my career from the airlines to caregiving, because they are my inspiration. I want to continue taking care of them.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver is to put their heart in what they are doing. Basically, everything we do, we have to put our heart in there or else we don't do good. So, in this field, we really have to be more patient, empathic, and compassionate. So please give and share your tender love and care with them.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
The client I would never forget, Elizabeth, she's my very first patient that I took care of when I started this job back in Germany. She came from a royal family, very proper and very bossy. She could be really mean. But I did the best I can, all my patience, all my understanding and compassion I shared to her. And at the end, I am able to work with her comfortably. And she's very comfortable with me. She, usually, don't like the nurses, she usually yells at the nurse. But it just happens that we became good friends.
