Can you tell me a little about yourself and how you got into caregiving?
Hi, I'm Flordeliza. I live in Daly City, California and I've been a caregiver for 25 years. My dad is a doctor’s assistant, and I’ve seen him take care of his patients. That is what got me interested in the medical field. After passing my test as a CNA, I worked for a hospital in the Oncology department. There I worked with nurses, and I gained a lot of experience taking care of patients.
What is one of the challenges you face as a caregiver?
What is difficult about being a caregiver is when a person passes away. I've built a relationship with them, and it's sad when they're gone, because I feel like I've been attached to the family and to my client. It's so sad when they go.
What is your proudest moment as a caregiver?
There is one client I'm working with now. I have a good relationship with her. I think I'm her favorite because she doesn’t want anybody else to be sent there. They sent three nurses to her and she refused. She said, "Oh, I want Flordeliza Luzon to come back." I'm proud of that.
What are your strengths as a caregiver?
What makes me different from other caregivers is my 25 years of experience. Different patients, different sicknesses, different needs: I'm always there for them, to care for them and make sure they're okay.
