Hi, my name is Francis. I live in Oakland, CA and I've been a caregiver for seven years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I love doing it. It started with my grandparents and uncles, them getting older. And I took it on as a job, doing caregiving. And I actually love working with the elderly.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be, just do the best job that you can, and love the elderly as you would love your own grandparent. And a safe job as it as well.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is one of the clients that I took care of recently. She had Parkinson's, and it was really hard for her to move around. Just being with her was actually lovely. Having six hours a day with her, taking her around. Actually getting to know her. It's really important that you get to know your employer, and that the employer gets to know their employee. Also just that she was just very loving. Just the fact that she just was so helpless with herself, I always have to help her with everything that she has to do. Whether it's cleaning it up for her, showering her, bathing her, and cooking for her, the time we spent together is very memorable.
