Hi my name is Fredrica. I've been a caregiver for a little over two years and I live in Palmdale, CA.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver when I moved in with my grandparents and just helping them around the house and seeing how helpless they are in certain situations and just wanting to do more and be able to do more for them. So that's when I started Medical Assistant and now I'm a certified medical assistant and I just learned so much more so I was eager to go ahead and get into that field.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice for a new caregiver, be open minded, if you have any questions or concerns do not hesitate to ask someone that you know or someone that you worked with in the same career because you can never learn too much, so that would be my advice to them, just be open-minded and be eager and willing to learn more. Don't be scared to ask questions if you need help with anything.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I'll never forget, they were no longer my client but I went home to visit for a little while and went to visit with them and they were actually getting their hair done with a family member of theirs and I just happened to be there, They were getting ready to leave out of the salon they were in and missed a step and almost fell down-- wasn't a lot of stairs but they could have really hurt themselves because they're over the age of 70 and I was there to catch them. So that was probably the most memorable moment and how they just couldn't stop thanking me for being there for them and they said to me that they know I always say I care about them and I love them but to hear it and to be there to pick them up when they almost fell, they said it meant a lot to them. So that's probably my most memorable moment.
