Hi, my name is Gabriela. I live in the City of Garden Grove, CA and I've been a caregiver for three years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I was willing to help people out with their daily needs, showering, bathing, feeding. It makes me feel good, and I like what I do. And I appreciate the love I get in return from all the patients. It's really nice to see smiles on their faces after you help them.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be, always look for changes in the patient, always report them to whom the changes need to be reported to, always have a smile on your face. Always brighten their day, because just how you brighten theirs, they're going to brighten yours back. And just be as friendly as possible. Then just always care for them as much as you could, just as if they were your own family.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget was-- when I was working with one of my clients, she was very happy when I was pregnant. I was pregnant at the time, and she was very excited to meet the baby. Every day that she would see me, she would ask me about the baby and my pregnancy. And we got really close because she would touch my belly every day. She was just so excited. And she said she never had any kids, so she said she saw me as her own. And it was a nice journey for her to be with me those nine months.
