Can you tell me a little about yourself and how you got into caregiving?
My name is Gabriela Valadas and I live in San Lorenzo, California. I have been caregiving for about 2 years, and I am a clinical medical assistant. I became a caregiver because a family needed someone to take care of another family member and through that I learned a lot and got references through my own family.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
Of all the people I cared for the first person that meant more to me was Maria. She taught me a lot with her conversations and I was always very happy to help her get through things she was struggling with.
What piece of advice would you give to a new caregiver?
If I could give one piece of advice to a new caregiver it would be patience, it takes a lot to learn. Because if you don't have kids or you don't have have experience you honestly aren't born with it. I would also recommend getting to know the person more than anything else. Their own feelings matter more than anything.
