Hi, my name is Georgiana. I live in San Antonio, TX and I have 15 years experience as a caregiver and med tech.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I had to take care of my mom, my brothers, and my grandpa when they got sick. My grandpa had Alzheimer's and dementia, so I had to be extra careful with him and do everything for him, and trying to let him know that even though he's had the sickness, we are still there to help him. So, I will have to say that my grandpa was what turned me into being a caregiver and pursuing the career as a caregiver.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be, take care of your patients as they are your own family members. Because we are there to take care of them and treat them right, and show them loving care and show them that we actually do care about them. And I also love to tell them that it takes a strong person to do the job that we do.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Miss Mary. I will never forget when she came to me and took my hand and told me, "Thank you for taking such a good care of me and for showing me your loving care. And for being there for me when I need you and for not treating me bad. I appreciate everything you do for me." That was one thing that, to be honest, it got me in tears to see her coming to me and saying that. It made my day.
