Hi, my name is Gil. I live in Oxnard, CA and I have ten years experience.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver to pursue an education in the medical field which I'm currently in college. So that is the main motivation behind my work as a caregiver.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to try to pursue the activities of the job as you would like them to be if you were the client or if it was one of your loved ones. And from there, try to basically learn as much as you can about the client just to try to connect with them more and do a better job.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I would never forget is one of my last cases. It was a hospice case but the assignment lasted about 14 months. He had a very interesting life, very educated, he was in the service. No matter what topic you brought up, he could speak about it and he knew. A lot of times when-- since I'm in college, I brought some things from school and he was able to answer the questions. And he knew basically every subject it seemed. And that's one guy I'm never going to forget.
