Hi, my name is Gloria. I live in Stone Mountain, GA and I've been a caregiver for 23 years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver after taking care of my brother who was ill and I liked the job. I was an encouragement to him and I was the only one that would have been given the privilege of doing those things for him.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be, number one, be compassionate, be concerned, take your time, don't rush a person and have compassion for people. The thing is at the end of the day and like I said, encourage somebody to do something and as a caregiver, you cannot compare them to a factory because you're dealing with a human being. Factory you deal with cars and objects and in caregiving, you're dealing with people, and feelings, and rejection.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget, she was actually 99, she was very dainty, she cared how she looked, she cared how she dressed, even if she went out with garbage. And I always said, when I get old, I want to be like you. Because like I said, she did everything her own way.
