Hi, my name is Grant. I currently live in Glendale, CA and I've been a caregiver for 3 years.

How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because in all honesty, I was out of college and I need a job. I found an entry level position with a company that provided in-home care to adults with autism and found that to be actually very rewarding much more than I anticipated, although also very trying as I'm sure you can understand. After a certain point in time, after about a year, and after I've moved down to California from Washington State where I originally got that job.

What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be, what somebody told me a long time ago when I was starting out, which is, "You can still have a good day even if your client is having a bad one." And in my particular case, my client was ambulatory, history of abuse from staff and therefore being aggressive towards staff.

Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Ed. Ed was one of the adults with autism that I worked with. And Ed is a character. He's still with us, but, yeah. His particular stimulus of choice is obsessive activity or noise essentially. Anything that made noise.
