Hi, my name is Guli. I live in Los Angeles, CA. And I've been working as a caregiver for more than 10 years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because it's in my culture. We have a great respect for the elderly and the disabled. So when I came to this country, the first job that I was thinking of was a caregiving for the elderly and the disabled. So, there was no any choice for me other than this job. And I am very happy with this job.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to pay attention. Be very attentive to your client. Take care of their needs. Understand their needs, and wants, and be passionate.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Ann. She was my recent client. When I began taking care of her, she was 97 years old, but because she lived alone for a long time, she became very weak, and she had been in hospitals and nursing homes. So, when I started working with her, I slowly encouraged her to do her excercise. We would take a walk, I would dress her up, and we would go outside to enjoy the garden, to see the roses that she planted during her younger years, and she enjoyed it very much.
