Hi, my name's Gus. I live in the city of Corona, CA and I have caregiving experience of 20 years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because of my dad's illness. He suffered from cancer and I was taking care of him until he passed away and I just fell in love with working with elderly patients. I feel that I'm caring and kindhearted, very patient and I love to work with them. I also do driving and I have worked with several disabled patients too, so I just love working with the elderly patients.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be, be very patient and understanding of their needs. They do require a lot of attention and some just want you to be patient with them and work at their pace. I understand that some suffer from different illnesses and some just need companionship, so I feel that patience, it's the biggest advice to a young caregiver.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is a patient that suffered from Parkinson's. He couldn't speak, he couldn't walk but yet in his eyes I could tell that he had so much to share with me. Unfortunately, we weren't able to communicate but in his eyes I could tell and just that love and warm feeling that he gave, like a young baby that can't talk but you can tell through their eyes that they're full of love. That's the most memorable patient I have worked with.
