Hi, my name is Gwendolyn. I live in Baytown, TX and I have been a caregiver for 14 years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because when I was nine years old, my aunt was paralyzed and I was real close to her. And I just had to do everything. So since the age of nine, I've been transferring her from wheelchair to bed or wheelchair to chair or vehicle.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to go with the flow, learning your clients' likes and dislikes. Always keep in compassion with the things you do for them and the conversation that you have with them.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I never will forget name is Wavonne. She's 84 years old and we share the same birthday. And everything about her is beautiful inside and out. And no matter what she's feeling, she always tries to help do her part and just using great manners each time.
