Hello, my name is Houa. I live in Fresno, CA. I have been a caregiver for one and a half years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I was tired of just working a job, I wanted a career, something to help people that are in need. I never knew the feeling of actually rewarding career until I became a caregiver. Seeing my clients happy and laugh and seeing that I'm doing something to better their daily lives makes my heart feel better at night.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to look at them like they're your brother, your sister, your mom or dad or grandma or grandpa. How you would want them to be cared for if they were your parent or relative.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I would never forget is Alex. He, from day one always had a smile, always laughed, and he became sick as the year went by and his doctor had said that there was nothing they could do. He was slowly going and he wouldn't make it April of this year but he fought through everything that could have got him down. He's still here today. He's stronger than ever. He's such a great, great person with such a strong heart. It's so amazing what the body can do with great care.
