Hello! My name is Iesha. I live in the city of Los Angeles, CA. I've been caregiving for five years now.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because my mom had a stroke back in 1989 and I ended up caregiving for her for two years. And also, I have private care, going out to people homes, cooking, cleaning, bathing, giving medication as private care through IHSS ( In-Home Supportive Services ).
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to have patience, be a companion to the person you are caring for. Also, be on time. Do the work that's expected by you and also by the company. And have a neat appearance.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is this lady, she was 97 years old and she had a lot of wisdom and a lot of knowledge. She also treated me as a daughter, and as part of her family, even though I wasn't her biological daughter. We went shopping, went out to movies, did daily activities. She had the most caring attitude, positive lady that I've known. She moved around perfectly good for a 97-year-old woman.
