Hi, my name is Ilesha. I live in Dallas, TX and I have been a caregiver for three years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I love helping people. I actually go to a school for nursing. I'm still attending, just not at the moment. I actually want to own my own group home. I just love helping people. They can't help themselves and have no one else caring for them. I want to be there to help. I want to make sure everything's okay. I just like helping people. I became a caregiver to help those who can't care for their selves.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be, go in with patience. Just remember to have patience, take your time, and go in with open ears because there is nothing that you can't learn. You can learn something every day. So go in with your ears, eyes opened, and sometimes maybe your mouth closed. But, yeah, it's really more of patience. You're going in with a lot of patience.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Ms. Lee. She was my favorite client. She reminds me of my auntie. I loved that lady to death. Even though she couldn't do much for herself, I was there for her. And if I needed something, she was there for me. I love her like she was my grandmother.
