Hello! My name is Ingrid. I live in Van Nuys and I have four years of experience as a CNA.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I want to become a registered nurse. I am currently going to school for it. Also, I love the medical field. I've always loved it ever since I was a little. I would like to help people medically through medicine. I love everything that nurses stand for, what they do, giving out medications, starting IV lines, wound care. Jusy simply helping people through their work. That's why I became a caregiver because it's my first step.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to have patience and compassion. You are going to work with people with different backgrounds and different diversities. You have to love what you're doing. You have to love the work you're going into and just have fun with it. It's your job, doesn't mean it has to be boring. You're caring for somebody everyday, whether it's with daily activites or just having a companion next to them, that's going to help your patient or client so much. Because you're there for them, and they know that, and they're going to have your trust, because you're helping them. They know that you're there for them all the time. That's my advice to a new caregiver.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget was Miss Bertha, she was simply the best. I enjoyed my time in my clinicals because of her. I helped her every day. I didn't have her for my assignments, but I always made sure to go to her and just check up on her, see how she was doing. Whenever the floor was busy, I'd go help her, and feed her. I helped her with anything she needed, whether if it was transferring her from her bed to her wheelchair, or taking her to activities, or simply just feeding her. Anything that helped her, I enjoyed it. She was the best, and I will never forget her. She has a special place in my heart, honestly.
