Hi, my name is Ira. I live in Daly City, CA and I worked for two years as a caregiver.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I grew up with my grandmother who was sick and bedridden and I took care of her. That's why I really love this job. I really love taking care of patients with emotional needs, comforting and assisting them with treatments.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice for a caregiver would be to love their job and do it properly because if they don't love their job, I don't think they will last long in this field. And if they are new, they have to ask if they are not sure because taking care of people is about life. It is serious, so you have to be cautious and always maintain the safety first of the patient.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
The client that I would never forget is Erlinda, my first patient. I became her caregiver when I was on training in the hospital she was admitted, for almost one year. She was in a critical condition because she had a stroke, so I experienced a lot of difficulty but at the same time, I learned a lot of good things about her.
