Hi my name is Irene and I've been a caregiver for 10 years and I live in San Jose, CA.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because as far as I could remember, when I was a little girl, my mother she was a CNA and I grew up in that type of environment and as I grew older, it inspired me and that's something I was always interested in, caring for others.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be have patience, be loving and caring, let the client show that your welcomed and that will just make your job more easier.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget, her name is Florence, well her name was Florence, I worked with her for almost 6 years. She was truly, truly, truly somebody unique, special, warm-hearted. Someone that, even though she had dementia and Alzheimer's, she would still remember me, she would know who I was. We had that type of connection, that I'll miss her even when I'm not working due to the fact that I would work with her Monday through Friday, 12 hours a day. She was basically part of the family and she was just special in so many ways. Sadly, she passed away this March and I truly miss her but I know she's in a better place.
