Hi my name is Jackie and I live in Gilroy,CA and my experience in caregiving is over four years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver beginning with my mom who is diabetic, has many health problems and I started to care for her. Went into caregiving full-time because I felt that I really could give back to someone or several people the compassion that I have and the love that I have for taking care of people. So, I love what I do and this is something that I would like to pursue and continue on in my future.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to have lots of patience. The job can be pretty tough sometimes, especially when you see your client in pain or not feeling well, kind of down in their day. So the important thing to do is have patience and have lots of compassion. It takes a very special person to be a caregiver and I feel that with patience and a lot of compassion, if you stick with it you will find that you really, really love doing the job of caregiving.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget. Her name was Kelly and I cared for her for a long time and she will be my most memorable client, just because she had such laughter and such life. Her eyes would sparkle and dance when she would laugh and she was a great person to care for because she just had so many stories. She was so full of history and I really enjoyed my time caregiving for her.
