My name is Jacquelyn. I prefer Jackie. I live in Union City and I've been caregiving for one year. How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I wanted a job that was rewarding. There are a lot of jobs out there but caregiving, at the end of the day I feel like I've helped people. I feel like I've done something. That's the most important part. I love helping people, I always have. It's very rewarding. It makes me feel good about myself and it makes me feel good about what I do.What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice for a new caregiver would be to be respectful at all times, to be mannerable. Don't be nervous about being yourself or about asking questions.Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I would never forget would be Evelyn. I worked with her almost all day. And I would help her get ready for activities or outings with her family. And we would be in her room, getting her ready, getting her showered or fixing her hair, and she would always tell me stories about her boyfriends or her ex-husbands, and she would always laugh and that was the most important thing. We didn't care if anybody was watching or listening. It was just the two of us and we were having a good time. And I'll never forget that because it was all about having a good time with here, making her feel comfortable and making her feel like she wasn't alone.
