Hi, my name is Jamie. I live in San Antonio, Texas and I have seven years of experience.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because my grandfather was ill at the time. I stayed with him and a short time after I just started to volunteer. It wasn't until I was volunteering that I realized how much I enjoyed it and I just continued on.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to always be mindful of your setting. Every client is going to be different and just keep in mind to be as patient as possible and compassionate as possible and just learn as much as you can while you're in that environment.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Daisy and she was always very inviting and very welcoming toward me and very open. A little standoffish at first, but that's understandable because you're getting to know one another, but even if she was very quiet she always asked me how I was. She didn't just have me take care of her. She, I guess, in a different way, took care of me too without really knowing that she did because she was really just so kind toward me.
