Hi, my name is Jamie. I live in Yoakum, TX and I have 15 years of caregiver experience.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver when my grandmother had cancer and then when my dad needed help. I love helping people stay out of the nursing home and that's why I like to do what I do and helping them stay and function on their own as long as possible.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver is to not go in and manage or control the situation but to observe and watch and help in areas that the patient is weak in but not do everything for them. Just help them and assist them in the day to day activities, not just take over.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is my dad. He had an amazing outlook on life, an amazing drive and he never gave up. Even when he lost his legs, he continued pushing forward and continued and continued and was an inspiration to all of us that knew him and continued to excel until elements beyond his control just took that away. I admire him and miss him very much.
