Hi, my name is Jaria. I've been a caregiver for five plus years. And I live in Toledo, OH.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because of my grandparents. And I had a passion to want to be a nurse one day. And I'm currently in school for nursing. So going through school, it has motivated me even more, so I will continue to work in this field and gain more experience.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to have patience, and to take your time, and to be attentive to what they are saying. Even if they cannot hardly tell you, you have to figure it out. I say look at it as being creative, looking at a new way of doing things and communicating. Another thing is, you just want to make sure that you're letting them know they're important and you're giving them an option, letting them feel like they're making the choices even though you're doing the task.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client will I never forget is the client that I had to take care of who was bound to the chair. She could not do anything unless we take her out of the chair. But she still stayed live as a person, still had a personality to herself. She didn't let that stop her from living her life. And it motivated me, letting me know regardless of what your experience in your life, there's always another outlook to it and there's always another way to look at life. To make it more rewarding and remarkable.
