Hi, my name is Jasmine and I live in Benicia, CA and I've been a caregiver for three years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because, one, I've watched my mother take care of people her entire life. She's a nurse. I grew up watching her take care of people. And secondly, I love working with people. I love taking care of people. I love being around with people.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be, you have to have a lot of patience and you have to have empathy for the client that you're working with. Because some days it does get hard, but you have to realize that even though it may be hard on you some days, it's way harder on them. So, you just have to be very understanding.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is my most recent client, Laura. It was a joy going to work. She loved me coming in. She couldn't wait for me to come by. As much as I helped her, I feel like she helped me. She was teaching me how to sew and she loved that. And I loved that she was excited to teach me how to sew. And I feel like that's something I can take and use for the rest of my life. So looking back, I'll never forget that. She actually took the time and wanted to, and it was one of the joys of her day, teaching me how to sew or watching her quilt blankets. And I loved that time that we had together.
