Hi, my name is Jasmine, I live in Los Angeles, CA and I've been a caregiver for 8 years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I watched my mom being a nurse for over 25 years, and it was interesting to me. So I started out at a convalescent home, and when I got into the field it was very inspiring to me. I love helping people. I love caring for them, and I love helping them with their daily life, making their life better.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to have patience with people, because you have to realize that they're in that situation for a reason. They may be having a hard time or a hard day, and that's what you're there for - to help support them and make their day better. So just have patience and understanding.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is my client Destiny, when I used to work at a day program. She just was like a ray of sunshine when everybody saw her. She just was attached to me. To this day she has her mom to call me and check on me and see how I'm doing. I do the same. I call and check on her. It's just a bond and a friendship that I can't forget because we have so much love for each other.
