Hi! My name is Jasmine. I live in Watsonville, CA and I've been a caregiver for a little bit less than one year.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I've always been interested in the medical field, ever since I was in high school. I completed a few of my goals after high school. And I love and enjoy taking care of others, caring for others. I've always been interested in the medical field, and I soon want to become a nurse.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be, to be patient with your client or resident, hear them out when they are speaking to you, don't judge them, and be very caring. Sometimes they just want companionship, or they just want to talk. Pay attention as well to their body, as in bruises, cuts, any wounds, so you can report any things immediately.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Tobar. He was a very funny man. He liked his things organized a certain way. Curtain pulled back, bed made a certain way, dressed a certain way. Everything had to be done his way. If you wouldn't do it correctly, he would get your attention and call you back in. And he was just very funny. We laughed together because I would be the same way.
