Hi my name is Jayda and I live in the city of Hayward,CA. I have been a caregiver for one year.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because two years ago, my grandmother was diagnosed with brain cancer and she spent countless hours in the hospital, and I was always there to take care of her and to see the nurses and physical therapists take care of her, it really inspired me that I want to take care of people. Also because she was a nurse, so I am in school right now to become a nurse. But right now I'm just CNA certified.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be, to be sympathetic and patient and kind, because you really have to have patience and also be good at communicating with all your patients and your fellow coworkers.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
The client that I will never forget, is the morning that I walked into her room and she was crying, and I asked her what was wrong and she was just sad that she's in a nursing home and she's on medication. She's old. She can't do much. But she told me that seeing me every day made her day, and she loves that I take care of her. And I remember the very last day that I worked there, I told her that it was my last day and she started crying and she said, "Who's going to take of me now?" It was just really great to see that she really loved the way that I cared for her.
