Hi, my name is Jazsmien. I live in the city of West Covina, CA and I have been a caregiver for about two years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because my mom influenced me quite some time ago. She had a business, an elderly home and she had it open for about a couple years. And I would help her and assist her with the patients. She had about six patients, I would say, living with us.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to have lots of patience because it's very well needed in this type of environment. Also, to care for them like they're your loved ones because they have a family too and they have a heart and they're people, so you got to feel for it like how you would want to be treated, how you would want your family to be treated. And it's just a lot of TLC, lots of TLC. And that's what you got to give.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget her name would be Linda. We cared for her in my mom's elderly home when we had it, when we lived in Nevada. And she was the sweetest lady that I ever met. She was living with us for about two years and it was kind of hard to let her go when we moved back to California, she was very memorable. And every morning she would make us laugh, and she was always willing to make breakfast. And we would always tell her no, that's our job. Let us do it. And she always insisted. She would want to help us and that's what we would do. We would have her help us.
