Hi. My name is Jeanette. I currently live in Chicago, IL. And I have 12 years experience.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because when I was young, my mother passed away when I was 13 years old. And she had cancer. And I was going through the treatments with her, I've seen family members treating loved ones unfairly because of their sickness. So I became that person that loved ones can turn to, to be able to feel more at home, more safe, and know there's someone always has their back.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be, just be passionate about it. If you're passionate about it, you'll be successful. If it's something that you love to do, regardless of the paycheck, you'll do it. Be caring, thoughtful, understanding to certain people's needs and wants.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I would never forget is my client that had schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. He passed away a month ago. And he was very open-minded and he used to come bring so much joy and peace. But on certain days, I read a book to him, but after a couple hours he would kind of just open up to me, make me feel welcome and thoughtful and caring
