Hi. My name is Jeanette. I live in Los Angeles, CA and I've been a caregiver for 3 and a half years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because when I was in high school I used to take care of my great grandfather, who was amputated, so that I would bond closer, and it just made me want to just receive that love again from others that I received from my great grandfather, and to just help out as much as I possibly can.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to not take anything personal. The patient is just top priority, and to just remain by their aide all the time. And just be there for them and make sure that they're taken care of.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Carla. She was hilariously funny. She kept me on my toes. She was very respectful. We bonded. I bonded with her kids, her grandkids. And even if I had a bad day she would always find something to make me smile or to get me in a better mood. Her talks were amazing.
