Hi, my name is Jeanette and I live in Los Angeles. I've been caregiving for two years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because my grandmother was sick, she had a stroke and she had diabetes. I used to care for her for about six months. I wanted to help others the same way I helped my grandmother. She inspired me to help people and make a difference.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice for a new caregiver would be to always be patient, always be compassionate and loving, and always make sure you look out for your patient's needs. Always be aware that they don't fall or trip depending on where their items and things are located. You have to be very careful not to give them the wrong medication as well, make sure everything is on track.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
My most memorable patient was Lusha. She was a pancreatic cancer patient and I made sure she was taken care of. I would change her diapers, administer insulin, and clean her.I really enjoyed working with her because she was very nice and kind. And towards the end of the road, she taught me that it's important to be strong and have a lot of faith and I really enjoyed working with her for that reason
