Hi! My name is Jeffrey. I live in Daly City, CA. I've been working as a caregiver for five years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because when I first migrated here in the US, I can see that US families tend to move at a certain age and leave their elders alone, unlike in our country, wherein we have close family relationship, wherein we tend to take care, literally, of our own elders. And here in America, everybody's too busy, and taking care of their elders is-- actually, they want to do it, but they can't because of work. After working as a caregiver for quite a number of years, I tend to do it also to a family love one. That's why I became more passionate about caregiving as the years go by.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver is just put your heart on whatever you do. Be passionate on whatever you do, and everything else will follow.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client that I will never forget is the one I cared for more than three years. I will just call him Chuck. Took care of him for three years. He was living alone, and the only family that he got was his stepson. He was an ex-military officer, and so at first, we were having trouble. He was really pissed off every time he sees me, but he needs me. He needs the care that I'm giving him because of his situation. I thought I can't bear with him, but I took care of him until he died three years after.
