Hi, my name is Jenetta and I live in the city of Inglewood, CA. I've been a caregiver for three years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because of a family member. My grandmother at the age of 62, she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's and it was really hard for her to help herself, prepare meals for herself and just her daily activities, she wasn't able to do them, so I pretty much stepped in. I ended up helping her in my free time because I realized that this was something that I really wanted to do.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice for a new caregiver is to do everything with love and patience, kindness and gentleness, no matter what the situation is and always pay attention to the details of each client.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client that I will never forget is Kim. She was a paraplegic and the only thing that she was able to communicate with was her eyes and I worked with her for about a year. Every time I would come in for my shift, I could tell that her connection to me was so amazing because she would smile with her eyes and I just felt the warmness of her eyes whenever I walked in the room to take care of her and to speak to her. I will never forget her and I love her. Even though she's a client, I really had genuine love for her.
