Hi, my name is Jessica. I live in Fallbrook, CA and I have been a caregiver for at least a year and still currently employed as a caregiver.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because my mom and my sister are both caregivers and they would always speak to me about their experiences and I felt like I would do great as well because I'm very caring, very compassionate and I'm very empathetic and I also wanted to get my foot in the door for anything in the medical field because I went to school for medical assistant.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice for a new caregiver would be to be very patient, to be very kind and to try to be understanding working for any client. Also to get to know them, get to know their routine and get to know how they like anything and everything because I feel like the more compassionate you are the better experience any client would have working with you.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Margie. She was on bedrest for a few weeks and she has passed away. I just remember going into her room to check on her every few hours and then I remember I would always make her smile. I will try to do anything I can just put a smile on her face by complimenting something or by just saying hi and try to be as loving and comforting to her as possible.
