Hi, my name is Jesus. I live in Altadena, CA and I've been a caregiver for one year.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver to be able to enrich the lives of residents and more importantly, to be able to help out when our grandmother was in a hospital. She had a stroke, so that pretty much inspired me to become a caregiver.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver is to always be patient. Patience is key to be able to become a very good caregiver.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is a patient who had Parkinson's and was struggling with eating. So I was able to improvise and found some tools, some utensils that would help him not shake his hand that much due to the Parkinson's. That helped him gain some dignity back and I felt very proud to be able to help him live a normal life - a happier life. He was very happy that I was able to help him in that way.
