Hi, my name is Jesus, and I live in Torrance, CA. I have 10 years experience as a caregiver.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I was the one who took good care of my parents when they got sick. Like when my father got liver cancer, I was the one who took good care of him until he passed away. And also with my mother, when she had a stroke, I was the one who took good care of her at the hospital and at home until she also passed away.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to the new caregiver would be always consider your patients as your parents. Love them as your parents. Take good care of them like how you deal with your parents and your families. Also remember the safety of our patients. Never ever leave the patient unattended. Never neglect the patient and abuse the patient. No abuse. No neglect. And also the last thing that I would like to advise to the new caregiver would be always remember that we should be patient-centered, meaning we always have to focus on our patients' welfare and comfortability.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Mr. Elden. He has a big heart towards his family, towards his neighbors and friends, and also towards his workers at home. Towards the housekeepers, towards the caregivers. He treated people as want to treat him also. He's very kind, very loving, although he got some condition wherein he gets agitated and aggressive. But I can see in his heart and in his eyes especially, that he is a very loving man. He is very understanding.
