My name is Jocelyn, and I live in North Hollywood, CA and my experience in caregiving is 5 years.
How did you get into caregiving?
My passion in caregiving started when I took care of a loved one.I realized that assisting others gives me a great feeling of fulfillment and joy.
I treat all my clients like a family member.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be the following: you have to be trained in universal precaution to prevent spread of infection and disease.
Knowledgeable and experience in proper lifting techniques, moving and transferring clients, and very familiar in different applications and use of assistive devices.
You also have to be well trained and experienced in emergency procedures.Confident in calling 911 during critical situations.
Knowledge in emergency preparedness during natural disasters, the use of fire extinguishers, and protocol to evacuate senior clients when needed.
And also you have to have experience on different cases depending upon the case of the new patient. As always, be happy in what you do.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I would never ever forget is this beautiful lady that I had the opportunity to care for, and as you know, and she needed some assistance on ambulation, but pretty much alert and very friendly and compassionate as well. So, there were times that we'd be laughing together as she finds me with great sense of humor. and she used to call me, my mini computer lifesaver, because I could always find all the answers for her on my smartphone, and she thought that I was just too smart. But I bonded with her, and I felt so bad when my tenure with her have ended as her daughter picked her up and moved her out of state.
That's something that until now I'm still pretty much thinking about her, because I miss her so much like a family member.
