Hi, my name is Joni. I live in Fresno, CA. I have four years experience.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver four years ago. I was displaced in the restaurant business, which I was in for 25 years. And so I began taking care of a lady which lasted three years. And I also take care of my Uncle, he's 92-years-old. And I've been caring for him. And I still am caring for him for the last two years.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to listen very carefully. And talk genuinely to the person you're caring for. Be gentle, kind, and a great companion, and a great friend.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Bobbi. She was a lovely lady that I cared for, for three years. We used to go for drives two, three times a week. And we'd go to back areas and kind of take side streets. And she wasn't very good with directions. And I'm not that great with directions. And anyway, we got on this little journey. We got lost. And we just laughed all day, had a great time, and finally made our way home. And we did that often. So those were great memories for me.
