Hi, my name is Jordan. I live in Altadena, CA and I've been a caregiver for 2 years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver due to my grandmother passing away, and she inspired me to care for elderly people just because they need some type of love and just to show that you care and that you're there to help them. Because so many people in the caregiving industry may mistreat elderly people, as far as their loved ones or someone.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to do your job the best way that you can. Don't overdo it, and show the patient or the care person companionship. You need to have a good relationship with someone because too many people don't have that, as well as making sure that you don't hurt yourself or transfer someone in the wrong way.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Mr. M. He was really hard of hearing, and we had the best relationship. At first, it was kind of rough, my first time. And it was certain things that he didn't understand what I was saying to him, and I would kind of speak low, and finally I was like, "Okay, I have to get it together." So we got it under control, and he understood things better, and it was good.
