Hi. I'm Josephine, I live in Pasadena, CA and all my years of experience as a caregiver is 1 year.
How did you get into caregiving?
I become a caregiver because I've been longing for the care my dad, who passed away, I've been his caregiver since he was in intensive care unit in the Philippines. And now when I migrated here in the United States, my father and my mom-in-law who are rated senior citizens and my mom-in-law has difficulty in recalling events, memories, like that. So I have experience caring for her and I'm really longing for the caring for elderly because I miss my dad and my mom is who is left behind in the Philippines, I miss her too. That's why I wanted to focus my attention as a caregiver.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to be a new caregiver would be you have to have that trait of being patient and to be understanding in caring for the seniors or the elderly.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is our client in Castleview the name is Michael. He is a male resident and he has dementia and every time I call his name Michael he used to tell me, "I'm not Michael, I'm James Bond," he used to talk like that. And everytime I care for this resident I can recall my dad, that's why everytime I see this resident I can recall always my dad who passed away and transferring all my care whatever abilities that I have and I'm passing this on to all the clients I have in our facility.
