Hello. My name is Josie and I live in Huntington Park, CA. I've been a caregiver for 5 years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver after my mom got ill and I was the caregiver of her illness, cancer. That's what made me want to become a caregiver since the year of 1992 - off and on, off and on - and then, also, worked at a convalescent home as well. I'm pretty much compassionates for the elderly, and it was just doing things and everything I can for them.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be is always to look out for the safety of their patient, as well as themselves, and to always respect them. Show your love and compassion for your work.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is named Rhoda, She is so awesome. She was so sunny, and she would always be the one to listen. She would always tell me stories about when she was young, and how she and her friends used to go out and have fun. It'd always be the same story over and over. Me being a caregiver is there for her and have an ear for her because that's what she want.
