Hi! My name is Joyce. I live in Los Angeles, CA. And I have approximately three years of experience.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because of my love for people and older people in general, and because of my daughter. She's actually an occupational therapist. And I actually love working with older people. And that's the main reason. To help loved ones in the family who actually need help mentally and physically.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be, to genuinely enjoy what you're doing, and that really would make a difference. Not just to go into it, just to be going into it, just to have something to do. But to have the love of helping people in general. And that would be my advice because then it wouldn't be a job. It would be something that you love and you dedicate your life to and dedicate to the actual client that you're working with.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is a client that I had that didn't believe that he could actually, I guess, advance to the point that he advanced to. Because he basically gave up on himself. And just working with him, spending time with him, and letting him know that you can do it. You don't have to be depressed or down on yourself. You do have the ability, and your self-esteem, and your confidence to make it. And just looking at the expression on his face and watching him after completing everything was really rewarding. And I will never forget that expression on his face. And that's my reward, just helping him getting from point A to point B.
