Hi. My name is Joy. I live in Richardson, Texas and I have been a caregiver somewhere from 10 to 15 years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because my children suffered from asthma and different ailment and then my mom got Alzheimer's, which made me go from pediatrics to geriatrics, so that is my interest in taking care of people.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be - empathy, patience, and compassion, along with understanding would make you the perfect caregiver.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I never will forget name is Owen. He was a four-year-old that had asthma really bad, short-term memory loss, and a couple other things, but every day was his birthday. He believed every single day was his birthday. So, we would do something different and inspiring every single day.
