Hi, my name is Julia. I live in Salinas, CA and I have one year experience.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I liked to be able to help when people aren't strong or capable of doing daily tasks. I like to make sure they're always happy and don't feel neglected or feel like they can't do anything because of their condition. I like to try and improve their abilities if needed or if they can. And I just like to be there with anything they need.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to always know that every day isn't going to be easy, or the client may not be feeling well some days. Just be patient and give the client some time if needed. Just stay calm because it's not easy having someone around, the client wishes to be able to do daily tasks on their own. And just be there to be someone to talk to and accommodate and assist them when needed.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Gail. She was very respectful and always wanted to help with tasks I would be doing. She and I were similar in some ways. We shared the same interests. I enjoyed being there for her with anything she needed, and she loved my company just as much.
