Hi, my name is Julian. I live in Bay Point, California, and I have four years' experience as a caregiver.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I see the needs of the elderly people. They need a lot of help. Also because of one of my friends-- a co-workers a long time, inspired me to continue pursuing my goal of being a caregiver because you become the elderly's best friend and then you can help whatever needs they do have and I love to interact with people, their personalities, their stories. And I pretty much love being a caregiver.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver is to learn the different techniques with the residents, also how to transfer them, also how to deal with different personalities that they will have. Then that will make you a better person and a better understander about their personalities and then the different techniques.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget was a resident that I had to take care of for a very long time in the community that I was working in. I have a lot of fond memories of her because she was very kind to me. She was very understanding, and always willing to teach me. Thanks to her, I learned how to be very patient, how to first explore the client environment, and also learn about them. She brings me a lot of memories because I will never forget that she was always there trying to help me out.
